Responsibilities & Jurisdiction
The Municipal Court is an independent branch of city government as established by City Council and is responsible for the administration of justice within the jurisdiction of the city.
Municipal Court is a summary court under the authority of the unified court system of the State of South Carolina and as such adjudicates misdemeanor violations of city and state laws. The Municipal Court is subject to the directives of the City Council and the South Carolina Courts Administration Office.
Municipal Judges
The Municipal Judges of the City are appointed by City Council for terms as determined by City Council. The Clerk of Court and Court Clerks are full-time employees of the city.
Reminder
Bags, purses, backpacks and containers of any type are prohibited.
- Weapons of any type are prohibited.
- Cell phones are permitted in the court.
- All persons are subjects to security screening and entering this facility constitutes consent to screening.
Failures to consent to security screening will result in entry being denied.
