  • Volunteers sought to fill openings on City boards, commissions

Are you interested in serving on one of the City's boards or commissions? Interested residents must apply online to be considered for any current opening. 

Please click the following link to begin: https://www.cityofgoosecreek.com/government/boards-commissions-and-committees and scroll to the bottom of the page to find the board/commission you are interested in serving.  Click on “Learn More” and "Quick Apply" under the description of the board/commission you're interested in, create a log-on account and fill out the application. The deadline for submitting your on-line application is Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee

Volunteers are needed to fill seven seats on the Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee (ATAC). The ATAC's members will consist of two from the Hospitality Industry, two from the Lodging Industry, one from a Cultural Organization, and two at-large. The ATAC makes recommendations to City Council on how the City should spend the Accommodations Tax monies collected each year.  The ATAC meets once per year at City Hall. Building Board of Adjustments and Appeals

There are currently three openings on the Building Board of Adjustments and Appeals (BBAA). The BBAA is composed of five members consisting of one engineer, one general contractor, and three members at-large from the building industry. The BBAA hears and decides appeals when it is alleged there is an error in any order or in a requirement, decision or determination made by the Building Official. The BBAA may authorize a variance from the terms of City Code. The BBAA meets on an as-needed basis. For more information, call Thurman Pellum at (843) 797-6220 ext. 3247.

Planning Commission

Four volunteers are needed to serve on the Planning Commission. The Commission is composed of seven at-large members, and by state statute, is responsible for determining many of the land use processes. The Commission is tasked with identifying the needs of the City, establishing both short and longterm goals for the development of the City, updating the city's Comprehensive Plan, and recommending zoning ordinances that support the plan. In addition, it approves street names and hears requests for property rezoning. All meetings are open to the public. The Planning Commission meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 6 pm at City Hall. For more information, call Kendra Wise at (843) 797-6220 ext. 1118.

Cultural Arts Commission

Six volunteers are sought for the Cultural Arts Commission (CAC). The CAC is composed of seven at-large members. Through innovative cultural arts programming, the CAC plays an integral role in Goose Creek’s development into a premiere community for living, working, playing and creating. The CAC will identify, present, and sustain cultural arts initiatives that enrich the lives of City residents and visitors. The CAC meets on the second Monday of the month at 6 pm at City Hall. Recreation Commission

Finally, one volunteer is needed for the Recreation Commission. The Commission is composed of seven members, three within the City limits of Goose Creek and four within the Special Purpose Tax District. The Commission is a Special Purpose Tax District created in 1966. Its mission is to offer quality recreational activities to the greater Goose Creek community. The Recreation Commission district (see map below) is comprised of those areas in Goose Creek that are not incorporated into the City of Goose Creek.  The Commission meets on the first Monday of the month at 6 pm at the Community Center.
