City Am Champion with Councilmember Tekac
  • Tucker captures City Amateur golf championship

Trevor Tucker entered the Second Annual Goose Creek City Amateur golf tournament on little sleep after he and his wife welcomed their first baby two weeks ago. It did not affect his play, however, as the Summerville resident and lifelong golfer held off a talented field to capture first-place with a two-day score of 3 over par.

The City Amateur took place Saturday and Sunday at Crowfield Golf Club in Goose Creek, with the final 18 holes played under blue skies and warm conditions Sunday.

“I’m rolling on hardly any sleep,” Tucker said with a laugh. “The timing was a little tricky with a newborn at home. I had to make sure my wife was OK with it, and she was.”

The new dad led the field after shooting a 71 on Saturday. His 76 on Sunday left him at +3 for the tournament and in first place. Jamen Sanders and Martin Summer tied for second at +6. Mike Stroud (+8) finished alone in third; while Colin Frazier, Parker Cleveland and Anders Skaalerud tied for fifth at +9.

“It felt great,” Tucker said of the win. “I made some real nice putts yesterday. The greens out here are tricky, and you have to make sure you put them in the right spots. It just feels good to get back in the competitive groove.”

Tucker is originally from Florida. He played high school and junior golf in San Antonio, TX, and then played at Maryville College in Tennessee, before moving on from competitive golf and transferring to the University of Tennessee, where he graduated in 2019.

Tucker competed in the first Goose Creek City Amateur last year, and said he looks forward to defending his title in 2025. “It’s a real test,” he said of the Crowfield course. “I love how the greens lay out .... I love the greens out here.”

Goose Creek City Councilmember Jerry Tekac, who played in the tournament, presented Tucker with the championship trophy Sunday afternoon.

“Thank you for playing,” Tekac told the gathered players. “We like to showcase what we have in our City, and this golf course is a great jewel.”

Tekac praised the condition of the course, as well as the new MOMO Crowfield restaurant provided lunch for the tournament participants. “The food this weekend was fantastic,” he said.

Crowfield Golf Club will host two more 36-hole tournaments in August: the inaugural Goose Creek Women’s City Amateur, and Goose Creek Men’s Senior City Amateur.

The tournaments will be played Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10-11, with a practice round scheduled for Friday, Aug. 9. Registration is now open for both events at this link: https://www.cognitoforms.com/CityOfGooseCreek1/_2024GooseCreekWomensSeniorsCityAmateurAtCrowfieldGolfClub
