Dennis Harmon receives Key to the City; Crowfield Pavilion named in his honor
Nov 10 2024
Former Goose Creek City Administrator Dennis Harmon was given the Key to the City on Saturday, as the new pavilion at Crowfield Golf Club was named in his honor.
Mayor Habib presented the honor to Mr. Harmon as dozens of former and current City officials, Crowfield Golf Club supporters, and regional and state leaders looked on.
Mr. Harmon served for 38 years as the City Administrator, after taking the job in 1978.
"There's a reason that all of these people -- colleagues of Dennis -- are here today," Mayor Habib said. "The City of Goose Creek would not be what it is -- the best place to live and raise a family in South Carolina -- without Dennis Harmon. Dennis, I really appreciate you and I hope you know that everybody here does."
Mayor Habib praised Mr. Harmon for his visionary leadership, which included the City's decision to purchase Crowfield Golf Club.
"It's important to me that Dennis knows how much we care about him, and how much he means to the City," the Mayor said. "We want to present Dennis to the Key to the City of Goose Creek. We only give this out to really special people, and Dennis Harmon is one of those."
Mr. Harmon called receiving the Key to the City, as well as learning that the Crowfield Golf Club Pavilion will bear his name, "a humbling experience."
"I can't begin to tell you what the City of Goose Creek means to me," Mr. Harmon said. "I spent the great majority of my professional career here, and that was gratifying. But being part of this community was event more gratifying. It was a wonderful experience."
Mr. Harmon was joined by his wife, Denise, at Saturday's event. "I would have had no success without her love and support," he said. "It's so gratifying to us both to see this community grow and thrive."
Saturday's announcement came at a grand re-opening celebration of Crowfield Golf Club's recently renovated and expanded clubhouse and pavilion.
Saturday's attendees gave the clubhouse renovation high praise. The incredible project was a tremendous success due to the work of J. Davis Construction and Middleton Group Architects.
Mayor Habib thanked the supporters of the project, including Rep. Brandon Cox and Berkeley County for the donation of the outside clock that is the focal point of the Club's new look.
The Mayor also thanked the Friends of Crowfield, including Councilmember Jerry Tekac; Joyce and Jim McQuiston; Paul, Kat and Nala Connerty; and Robert Mark Stenstrom. And Mayor Habib also thanked the businesses who are naming sponsors: Gene's Pawn, owned by Travis and Amy Stern, sponsored the inside bar; Realtor Troy Philips at Carolina One sponsored the putting green; and Goose Creek Heating and Air & Plumbing, owned by Robbie and Amber Wright, sponsored the outside bar.
MOMO Crowfield will officially open its new restaurant at the club next month.
