City receives grant money for Senior Center updates
Apr 27 2021
The City of Goose Creek has received $131,834 to update the Senior Center on Thurgood Boulevard. The money is part of a $1.2 million U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant that was awarded to Berkeley County.
The county presented checks to six non-profits and municipalities at the April 26 Berkeley County Council meeting. The funds were presented to each recipient in the form of a large check during Monday night’s County Council meeting. Goose Creek Mayor Greg Habib and Recreation Director TJ Rostin were on hand to receive the funds.
Mayor Habib called the Senior Center an important effort between Berkeley County and the City of Goose Creek.
"The Senior Center is a collaborative effort between Berkeley County and the City of Goose Creek; it is not just ours; it is not just theirs," he said. "It’s somewhere where we work together, and I hope everybody recognizes how important that is, that not just on this grant side, but in a lot of things that we do, it’s really good to have partnerships like this through government."
