City offices reopen as Hurricane Dorian leaves the Lowcountry

Friday, 10 a.m. update: Yard debris reminder: The maximum dimensions that we can pick up for each piece of debris are 4-foot long & 4 inches in diameter, weighing no more than 50 pounds. Also, please remove all dirt from roots.
City Hall offices have reopened, and will be open today until 5 p.m.

Thursday, 4:30 p.m. update: City of Goose Creek offices will open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday for normal operations.
Trash pickup will resume its regular schedule on Friday. (The pickup will be for those residents whose normal trash pickup day is Friday. Trash pickup will then continue on Monday with a normal schedule next week).
The Goose Creek Recreation Complex will open at 10 a.m. on Friday. Half Pints and Bright Beginnings preschool will not have class.
Crowfield Golf Club’s driving range and putting green will open to the public at 12 noon on Friday; we are preparing the golf course for play, and when it can also be re-opened we will announce that. The Crowfield Bar & Grill will also be open at noon with a limited menu.
While Municipal Court offices will be open tomorrow at 10 a.m., all court cases that were scheduled for this week will be rescheduled, and a new date will be mailed.

1:40 p.m. Thursday: Please stay inside and do not travel until conditions improve. The wind gusts -- expected to continue until after 3 p.m. -- are making travel unsafe.

8:30 a.m. Wednesday update: Sandbags are currently still available at the Goose Creek Fire Department Headquarters Station (201 Button Hall Avenue).
Westview Middle School in Goose Creek is a designated shelter, and will open at 10 a.m. today to anyone who needs it. Other Berkeley County shelters include Berkeley Middle School (Moncks Corner), Cane Bay High School and St. Stephen Elementary. For information on a medical special needs shelter, please contact SCDHEC at (855) 472-3432.
The City's Emergency Operations Center is fully activated and will remain so until the threat from Hurricane Dorian is over. City Fire, Police and Emergency staffing levels are increased for the storm.
SCDOT's lane reversal on I-26 is scheduled to end at 12 noon today.

12:15 p.m. Tuesday update: Trash pick-up will not take place today, Wednesday or Thursday. We will know if pick-up is possible on Friday later in the week, and will announce that as soon as possible. City offices – including Municipal Court, Goose Creek Recreation, and Crowfield Golf Club -- are closed through Thursday.
The City’s Emergency Operations Center remains activated, and will be until the threat from Hurricane Dorian is over.
Sandbags are still available at our GCFD Headquarters Station (201 Button Hall Avenue).
City Fire and Police have increased staffing for the duration of the storm and continue to prepare.
The lake level behind City Hall has been lowered in anticipation of extra rainfall.

A new delivery of sandbags has arrived at the Goose Creek Fire Department Headquarters Station. Residents are asked to please observe a 10-bag limit.
All trash pick-up for the week has been cancelled. We will update the trash pick-up schedule as soon as possible.
City offices - including Municipal Court - will be closed through Thursday of this week. Friday's office hours will be updated as soon as possible. Municipal Court cases scheduled for this week are cancelled and will be rescheduled.

The Goose Creek Department of Public Works has lowered the level of the lake behind City Hall in preparation for the likely increase in rainfall this week.
Although City offices remain closed, the City's Police, Fire and Emergency personnel staffing will be increased for the week. The City's Emergency Operations Center was officially activated at 6 a.m. Monday morning.

All lanes on I-26 will be reversed leaving the Lowcountry by 12 noon.

Sunday, 7:20 p.m. update: All City of Goose Creek offices will be closed on Tuesday. The Goose Creek Recreation Complex/Community Center and Crowfield Golf Club will both be open on Monday (Labor Day), and closed on Tuesday.
Trash pick-up in the City will not take place on Monday or Tuesday; that schedule will be updated as soon as possible.
Although City offices will be closed, there will be increased numbers of Police, Fire and Emergency Personnel on patrol throughout the week.
Gov. McMaster has issued a mandatory evacuation order that includes Goose Creek.

Sunday, 11:30 a.m. update: While the path of Hurricane Dorian is still uncertain, the storm is expected impact South Carolina.
The current forecast calls for the storm to pass South Carolina's coast Wednesday night into Thursday morning as a Category 2 Hurricane, but that forecast is not definite and could change. South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster has issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency.
The City's Emergency Operations Center will likely be activated either Monday morning or Tuesday, depending on the hurricane's movements.
Sandbags will be available beginning Sunday afternoon at the Goose Creek Fire Department Headquarters Station (201 Button Hall Avenue).

• Berkeley County opened a citizens’ information line Sunday. By calling 843-719-4800, residents can get updated information from the County’s Emergency Preparedness Department. Additionally, citizens can report issues the County should be made aware of.
• Berkeley Animal Center has temporarily stopped accepting animals. The shelter will remain closed until further notice.
• Berkeley County Convenience centers will close at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2. The County landfill will close at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Saturday, 1 p.m. update: While the path of Hurricane Dorian is still uncertain, the storm may pose a threat to South Carolina. Berkeley County’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) moved to OPCON 2 at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
OPCON 2 means enhanced awareness.
City of Goose Creek officials are continuing to closely monitor the storm and preparing a coordinated response, if needed, with local, regional and state agencies.
Friday, 4 p.m.: City of Goose Creek officials are closely monitoring Hurricane Dorian, and encourage residents to follow local and national media reports as the storm continues its track toward the Southeastern U.S.
What impact the hurricane will bring to the Lowcountry is not clear, though lots of rainfall next week seems to be a safe bet. As of Friday morning, a northward turn by the hurricane is expected after the hurricane comes ashore along Florida's Southeastern coast.
