GCFD Ceremony N.jpg

Wednesday, April 13 was a night of celebration for the Goose Creek Fire Department. The sparkling new Fire Station 3 on Old Moncks Corner Road was the setting as family, friends and supporters of the GCFD gathered for a swearing-in of 14 new firefighters. In addition, nine firefighters received promotions, and seven more team members were honored for their length of service with the GCFD. New firefighters sworn in by Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler were: Erich Nagel, Jason Noonan, Sean Parry, Brandon Bass, Daniel Branath, Christopher Cotterman, William Rhenert, David Shank, Robert Ulrich, Spencer Fey, John Haymaker, Jason Lightner, Jesse Merritt and Michael Woods. Goose Creek Fire Chief Steve Chapman encouraged the young firefighters to “work hard, always be learning, and remember that you are representing the City of Goose Creek.” Mayor Heitzler began the ceremony by swearing in all existing GCFD Fire, Rescue and EMS members. The Mayor thanked the entire fire department for its service to the City. Chief Chapman presided over a promotion ceremony that saw Richard Bassin, David Masirovits and Joshua Rohrbach earn the rank of Captain. Promoted to Engineer were Jason Fenstermaker, Christopher Harrison, Sean Nordaby, Nicholas Collins, Matthew Marous and Paul Clendenning. Honorees recognized for their time with the GCFD were Engineer Neal Arrington (25 years), Administrative Coordinator Donna Hicks (26 years) and Captain Mike Althoff (27 years). The three were each presented a bronze fire axe emblazoned with the GCFD emblem. Also honored were Adrian Taylor, Richard Bassin and Joshua Rohrbach for reaching the 10-year mark, while Matthew Marous’ five years of service were recognized. Chief Chapman ended the special ceremony by thanking Goose Creek City Council Member John McCants, whose term on City Council is ending after 24 years. The Chief presented a plaque to the retiring councilman, and thanked him for his “unwavering support for the fire department.”
